Where to Find St. George Court Dockets

St. George became a city in 2019, making it one of Louisiana's newest incorporated cities. Despite that status, it does not have its own separate court system. Court filings for St. George go through the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court and the 19th Judicial District Court, the same as for Baton Rouge and other communities in EBR Parish. The EBR clerk, Hon. Doug Welborn, manages all docket records for the 19th JDC.

The EBR clerk operates two offices. The main downtown office is at 222 St. Louis Street in Baton Rouge. A second location on the north side of the city handles additional public access needs. Both offices hold the same records. The clerk's website at ebrclerk.com has current hours and service details. Public records access is governed by La. R.S. § 44:32.

St. George Court Docket Record Types

Because St. George is part of East Baton Rouge Parish, its court docket records fall under what the 19th JDC handles for the rest of the parish. That covers a wide range of case types. Civil cases include contract disputes, property claims, personal injury actions, and other civil filings. Family cases cover divorce, child custody, child support, and adoption. Probate and succession matters deal with wills, estates, and the transfer of assets after death. Criminal cases include felony charges filed by the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney. Property records cover mortgages, conveyances, and liens recorded with the clerk.

Juvenile records are restricted under Louisiana Children's Code Art. 412. Sealed cases and adoption records are closed. All other St. George docket records are public under state law. Any person 18 or older may inspect them without giving a reason or being a party to the case.

In-Person Access to St. George Court Records

If you want to view the full case file or get certified copies, visit one of the two EBR clerk offices. Staff can pull records by name or case number at both locations. Bring a photo ID. Inspection of a public court file is free. Fees apply for paper copies and certified documents. The clerk can tell you the current rates when you arrive or when you call ahead.

For older or archived records, call before you visit. Some older files may be in off-site storage or on microfilm. If that is the case, the clerk staff can tell you how long it will take to retrieve them. As a newly incorporated city, St. George does not yet have its own municipal court separate from the parish.
