How to Search Baton Rouge Court Dockets Online

As of June 2022, all online court docket records for East Baton Rouge Parish are available through Clerk Connect. This replaced prior search systems. Clerk Connect covers civil, family, probate, criminal, and property records in one place. You no longer need to use separate portals for different record types.

To access Baton Rouge court docket records through Clerk Connect, go to clerkconnect.com and search by name, case number, or other identifiers. A subscription or pay-per-search fee may apply for document images. Index-level searches may be available without a subscription. Check the site for current pricing before you start.

You can also search the statewide eClerks LA portal. This gives free index access to records from many Louisiana clerks, including East Baton Rouge. If you find the case index on eClerks LA, you can then go to Clerk Connect for document images or visit the clerk office for copies.

Baton Rouge Court Docket Record Types

The 19th JDC handles a broad range of case types. Each type appears on the court docket and has its own set of records maintained by the clerk. Here is what the court docket in Baton Rouge covers.

Civil cases include contract disputes, personal injury suits, property claims, and other civil actions. Family cases cover divorce, child custody, child support, and adoption matters. Probate and succession cases deal with estates, wills, and the appointment of curators or tutors. Criminal cases include felony charges and grand jury proceedings. Property records include mortgages, conveyances, and liens recorded with the clerk.

Not all records are fully public. Juvenile records are restricted under Louisiana Children's Code Art. 412. Sealed cases and adoption records are also closed to the public. Everything else on the court docket is available under La. R.S. § 44:32.

If you want to view the full case file or get certified copies, a visit to the clerk office is the direct route. Staff at both the downtown and north Baton Rouge offices can pull records by name or case number. Bring a photo ID. Copy fees vary depending on the document type and whether you need a certified copy.

Inspection of court records is free under state law. You do not need a reason to look at a file, and you do not need to be a party to the case. If you need certified copies for legal or official use, fees apply. The clerk can tell you the current fee schedule when you arrive.

For older or archived records, call ahead to confirm availability. Some older files may be in storage or on microfilm rather than immediately accessible at the counter.

Baton Rouge City Court Docket

In addition to the 19th JDC, Baton Rouge has its own city court. The Baton Rouge City Court handles smaller civil claims and lower-level matters that do not go to district court. Its docket is separate from the 19th JDC docket.
